Something Borrowed

Something Borrowed

Rachel (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Darcy (Kate Hudson) are BFFs until Rachel begins an affair with Darcy’s fiancé Dex (Colin Egglesfield), only two months before the wedding. Rachel and Dex had first met at law school, and she was working up the courage to make her move when the vivacious but selfish Darcy got her claws on him first. Something Borrowed is not as formulaic as other romantic comedies. Complex plotlines; unpredictable outcomes; and well-rounded characters are refreshing, but for a rom com there is a disappointing lack of both romance and comedy. This is not a love story you would want to tell your grandchildren. Dex, played by a Tom Cruise look-a-like with very little onscreen charisma, is confused, weak and stringing our leading ladies along. Colin Egglesfield is no Matthew McConaughey or Ryan Reynolds, that’s for sure. The highlight of the film is Rachel’s best male friend, Ethan, played by The US Office’s Jon Krasinski (no, he’s not gay, he only pretends to be). Lovable Ethan offers some funny and surprising moments. Now there’s a man who has what it takes to be the next rom com stud muffin.
