Nicky Murphy – What’s In Your Mind

What’s In Your Mind? is an album you can judge by its cover. It’s a mix of colour and vibrancy with 70s-inspired psychedelic overtones; it’s a piece of art. This is Nick Murphy’s second album. He formerly played with Melbourne band, The Anyones, who split in 2005. His debut album Breaking the Light was played across triple j and community radio and on various television programs. What’s in your Mind? is a delightful mix of psych-folk, soul, country and pop. It’s the ideal album to listen to if you want to sit back, relax and appreciate the finer moments of life. You’ll hear influences of a wide range of bands including The Beach Boys; Ben Lee; The Shins; and Elliot Smith, but they just linger for a moment and then are gone leaving you with dreamy melodies; poetic lyrics; and a warm, mellow voice. So, what’s in your mind now Nick Murphy? Fingers crossed it’s a third album.
