put your best foot forward – The Benefits of Do-It-Yourself Pedicure

Your feet need serious attention but you can’t bear to show them to a beautician. That’s why I started my Do-it-Yourself pedicures. Within a few weeks I had friends and family asking me where I go to get my toes done. My answer, um… my living room.

Our feet have to support us (literally) for the rest of our lives, so we owe it to be kind to them. Do-It-Yourself Pedicures are great because they are fun, cheap and very therapeutic.

SIX STEPS TO NICER FEET

  • HAVE A FOOT SPA

For a complete pampering effect, indulge in a foot spa. I have the Breville Bodyzone rejuvenating foot spa. I like to use it on Sunday evening in front of the TV. The high-pressurised water jets are especially fun and relaxing. Go to http://www.breville.com.au/

  • SOAK YOUR FEET

If you don’t own a foot spa, you can just as easily soak your feet in the bath for ten minutes and use a scrub to help remove dead skin. My favourite product is the peppermint cooling foot scrub by The Body Shop. You can purchase online at http://www.thebodyshop.com.au/

  • USE A FOOT PADDLE

After soaking your feet, dry them and use a dry foot paddle to remove dead skin. Even a few seconds will make a difference. Manicure and The Body Shop both have foot paddles.  For Manicare products, visit http://www.chemistdirect.com.au or www.priceline.com.au

Beauty Tip: if you buy a plastic foot paddle, leave it in the shower and try to use it everyday as part of your shower routine.

  • BUFF YOUR TOES

My most fatal and embarrassing foot issue was my yellow toenails. Stained, yellow toenails are not pretty and I would make the mistake of always covering my yellow toes with more nail polish. The trick is to get a good buffer and try and let your toes breathe for a bit without the polish. I’ve found the most effective buffer to be Manicare Maxi buffer. I love it because it comes with clear and easy instructions for the least beauty conscious person.

  • BUY A GOOD NAIL POLISH

Do-It-Yourself pedicures means saving $ and with the money you have saved it is worth splashing out on a good quality nail polish. Revlon is award-winning and if you are as impatient as I am, you will need Revlon top speed nail polish. Cosmetics and More http://www.cosmeticsandmore.com/. is a discounted cosmetics store with brands such as Revlon, Alma and Streetwear.

  • USE A CUTICLE OIL

Overgrown cuticles look messy. I use the Manicare cuticle oil. In fact I think I have become addicted to massaging it in to my fingernails and toenails. You can read up on Manicare products at http://www.manicare.com The Q and A section of the website gives tips and advice on feet care. And check out the diagnose your nails page. It helps you to work out the ideal treatments for your nail type.
